Over 100 overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Singapore recently received support from the Department of Agriculture (DA) in venturing into agriculture entrepreneurship.

In a statement Tuesday, the DA said at least 110 OFWs and Filipino community leaders were introduced to profitable opportunities in both livestock and poultry industries during the “Usapang Agribiz: Forum on Agribusiness Opportunities in Philippine Livestock and Poultry.”

During the forum, held at the AIA Alexandra on Sunday (Nov. 9, 2025), the DA discussed current government support mechanisms as well as practical tools, success models and government programs designed to turn the OFWs’ savings into sustainable agribusiness ventures.

Young “agripreneurs” like Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) awardees Leon Vincent Paraguya of Wagling Cattle Enterprise and Kristin Angela Yap of Le Reinvente also shared their firsthand experiences in coming up with their respective businesses during the forum.

The event was part of the ongoing partnership between the DA and the Department of Migrant Workers under a memorandum of understanding signed on June 4 last year.

Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service, which is under the DA and the organizer of the forum, vowed to provide more mentorship, technical guidance and market linkages to the participating OFWs.

To date, more than 440,000 Filipinos are working in Singapore. (PNA)
